"i can read your face like a book."
•• The common room wasn't exactly bustling with activity but a steady stream of girls and sometimes even guys filed in through the door. Some of the ones who had evidently been here longer lounged in front of the tv, sitting at desks, or some of the nicer ones were even talking to the new people. She had just arrived right before the people had started going to their rooms and she didn't know any of the other seven girls she shared a room. She didn't know anyone here, not even the dust bunnies under the plush sofa she was curled up on. Grey-green eyes darted back and forth from hard faces to scared ones, her own face unreadable. Lips parted slightly as she focused on one particular girl, a younger one, reading her mouth. Arguing. She couldn't stand it. Tearing her gaze away she focused on the tv instead. Everything was moving too fast for her to read but she get the idea of the cartoon. Some short guy hunting a wily rabbit. Her smile appeared, brightening her face automatically.
•• Fingers twisted and wrapped themselves around and around the thin scarf she always carried with her. It was a sort of security blanket you could say. Her gaze drifted down to look at her shirt. Her old mother had given it to her because she was always smiling when there was a chance. That brought another smile to her pale pink lips, the thought bringing back to sweeter aspects of the farm home she grew up on. It also brought back that dirty closet. Shuddering slightly, hands clenched the scarf until her knuckles turned white with the effort. Blonde hair cascaded forward to frame her features, eyes scrunched in desperation to rid the memory but they slowly welled up at the edges. Tears, like precious crystals, dropped down slowly only to perch at her perky nose before dropping down on the sofa. The monsters were still everywhere.
